Vadodara, February 21

There was a furore in the M S University on Thursday after the Baroda Bar Association head Narendra Tiwari released a CD wherein a former M S University student was caught in a compromising position on the lawns of the main campus in broad daylight।
Tiwari and other student leaders raised the issue of security on the campus, saying how could such incidents be allowed to happen, more so in the wake of recent cases of sexual abuse in the state.
With student leaders taking up the issue vociferously with the MSU Vice-Chancellor Manoj Soni, an inquiry has now been ordered to look into the security concerns on the campus.
According to Tiwari, former M S University student in the video clipping is an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) member. However, the president of M S University Students' Union (MSUSU) and also ABVP leader, Hiral Sarvaiya said that the student did not belong to ABVP.
Even as the MSU ex-student has been identified, both National Students Union of India (NSUI) and ABVP are raking up the issue of lax security on the campus. Later in the day, the student leaders registered their protest at the Vice-Chancellor's office demanding more security in the campus to prevent such incidents. "Sexual abuse and other kind of illicit activities are on a rise in the M S University due to lack of security in the campus. We demand that the V-C take immediate action," said NSUI Vadodara president, Jaha Bharwad.
On his part, Sarvaiya questioned the security system in the hostel, saying that in some hostels there were no guards at all and illegal activities went on unchecked.
Meanwhile, Soni has assured students that security would be tightened in and around the campus. He said an inquiry committee would also be set up to look into the matter. MSU pro Vice-Chancellor, S M Joshi said: "There are 30-35 people in the campus along with watchmen and we are planning to tighten the security in the coming days. The security committee would take care of it." However, Joshi said that they have yet to see the CD. "So we do not know what action we will initiate against the student, in question," he said.
Mock exerciseThe visit by the MSU Pro Vice-Chancellor S M Joshi to the girls' hostels on Tuesday to check the security arrangement in the wake of the controversial CD episode is just a farce, if MSUSU vice-president Hiral Sarvaiya is to be believed. According to him, Joshi just checked the registers and did not even inspect if there was any security guard present in the area, and this when he has said that though guards are present on the campus, the security in the hostel would be strengthened.
