PATNA: Bihar governor RS Gavai had to face the flak for what was happening in Maharashtra against the people of Bihar and UP. Perhaps, the fact that Gavai hails from Maharashtra prompted opposition members to launch an attack on him.
They disrupted his speech when he rose to address the joint session on Friday. A section of MLAs belonging to opposition parties shouted slogans like “Rajyapaal wapas jao (Governor, go back).”
As soon as the governor began reading his speech all opposition members rose to their feet and started shouting slogans against the state government and also against the Maharashtra government, creating a chaotic scene in the House. The governor’s speech was drowned in the commotion.
However, braving the unruly disruptions by the opposition, Gawai continued with his speech, enumerating the steps initiated by the state government to accelerate the pace of development. He also condemned the attack on the people of Bihar and UP in Maharashtra.
RJD member Shakuni Chaudhary demanded that a case of sedition be lodged against Raj Thackeray and Bal Thackeray. He suggested that the governor should speak to Maharashtra government for initiating action against those inciting violence on the people of Bihar and UP. Several members put forth similar demands to the governor when he was leaving the house.
The governor was overheard telling the MLAs that there are some ‘august occasions’ in course of house proceedings and no member should create disruptions or unruly scenes at that time. The governor’s address to the joint session of state legislature was also an august occasion, he said.
Later, talking to the media persons outside the assembly hall, the governor condemned the incidents in Maharashtra. “No one can justify the happenings in Maharashtra. I strongly condemn the action of a section of people targeting people from other states,” he said. He added, “India is one. And I am with the people of Bihar in condemning the happenings in Maharashtra.
