Saif ready to rock 'n' roll
Rockstar Saif Ali Khan is super excited about his musical performance with Parikrama and Strings tonight
He promises to make it a night to remember with some classic rock numbers that he will be performing. It was big news when Saif Ali Khan played guitar and sang at a rock concert along with the band Parikrama two years back. This time around the show is even bigger — it’s travelling to Bangalore, Mumbai, Calcutta and Delhi.
“Having performed at a concert earlier to a limited audience, I wanted to make it bigger and better for the nation to rock to!” says Saif who crooned some ACDC and some of Parikrama’s tracks last time around.
He is great friends with the Parikrama band members and cannot wait to get on stage with them once again.
“We share very similar tastes in music and they are a bunch of fantastic musicians. I really enjoy playing with them,” says Saif who couldn’t do this concert last year because of health issues. So what was the experience like for him the last concert he played? “It was electrifying! Going out there and performing in front of 15000 people was living out my childhood dreams,” he smiles.
Classic rock is what he has grown up on and that’s what you will be hearing tonight at the Royal Stag live with Saif, Parikrama and Strings at Andheri Sports Complex, though he is not ready to disclose which of his favourite numbers he will be playing.
“Well, it’s a surprise. Those who want to find out, just turn up at the show,” he says adding that his favourite performers include Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Angus Young of ACDC. “I am very fond of the classic guitarists. Among the slightly more modern guitarists, I like Eddie Van Halen,” he admits.
He doesn’t think too much of his rockstar image though. “I don’t really take it too seriously. Rock music is about passion and self-expression; it’s not about an image.” Interestingly, while he appreciates Indian rock, he admits he is not completely clued into the scene. “I’m not as clued as I would like to be. But bands like Parikrama and Pentagram are really taking Indian rock global,” he observes.
So is his family going to be there to cheer him at the concert? “I hope that all of my fans, friends and family will be there to support me. I’ll make it a night to remember,” he says, adding, “Rock music has always been a passion. I look forward to sharing that passion with my fans across the country and hopefully blowing their minds with some classic rock and roll!”
